CJ comes from a family that has a strong passion for sports. His brother Lorenzo excelled in football at Servite High School, a top-rated school for the sport, while both CJ and his other brother Dominic played baseball in college. In our interview, CJ discussed how being a senior at Cal Baptist has given him the opportunity to be a leader and role model for the younger members of his team, just as he looked up to older teammates when he was a freshman. He reminisced about one of his favorite moments while playing baseball, specifically his first college appearance where he scored four runs, had two hits, including a triple, and a stolen base. CJ also spoke fondly of his experience playing summer ball in San Luis Obispo for the Blues. He mentioned how interactive the fans were, often approaching him for autographs and photos. The team had a dedicated fanbase and thousands of local fans would show up to every game to support them. This experience was one of CJ’s favorite places he’s ever played at. We are glad CJ was able to join us for the Athlete Spotlight.

CJ the Deep Sea Fisherman

CJ has a deep love for fishing, a passion that was instilled in him from a young age by his father and brothers. Growing up in Orange County, California, he had regular opportunities to take the family boat out on the open ocean and catch giant Tuna. In recent years, CJ’s family gets a beach house in San Diego, where they often head to relax and fish. The picture shows CJ’s proudest catch to date, a massive 180-pound Pacific Bluefin Tuna that he caught while fishing in Mexico. One of his favorite fishing spots is Catalina Island, a historic and scenic island off the coast of Southern California. He describes the waters as clear and smooth, providing prime opportunities to catch nice fish. Interestingly, Catalina Island is also where I go diving for lobster when I’m back home in Orange County. When not playing baseball or fishing, CJ enjoys watching football and rooting for his hometown team, the Los Angeles Chargers.
